Statement of Faith
We are a fellowship of Christian believers who have pledged ourselves to Christ, seeking purpose in our personal lives and in our work, according to his teachings and guidance. We acknowledge our allegiance to God as made known to us in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Bible contains the word of God, that the word is heard in varying but persistent degrees in the Old Testament and that it literally shouts at us in the Man from Nazareth, Jesus the Christ, in the New Testament.
We believe in the fatherhood of God as it has been revealed by Christ; in Jesus as the fullest expression of God know to humankind; in the guiding Spirit of God, in prayer, in the essential need each of us has to remain in touch with God in worship, and in the power of God to ultimately triumph over all that is unholy and evil.
We, as a community of believers, try to put the love of Christ into practice in our lives, but are fully aware that each of us inevitably falls short. Therefore, we seek forgiveness for our sins and renewed strength for our life’s most challenging tasks.
We trust in the grace of God, who raised our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, and we look forward to the life everlasting as well as to the eternal tasks, opportunities and dimensions of the kingdom of God which knows no end.
Worship Services
Holy Week
Join us as we journey through Holy Week at Pilgrim Congregational Church – from Palm Sunday and its joyful traditions, through the quiet reflection of Maundy Thursday, to the celebration and hope of Easter Sunday. All are welcome to share in these meaningful services and experience the beauty of the season together.
Summer Services
Pilgrim Church members enjoy getting outdoors in the fresh air and a picnic is a fun and delicious time to get together. Rev. Paster is a grill master and everyone contributes something to the feast. Occasionally, we will have our worship service outdoors as well. Worship with us at 10:00am during July and August, and on Labor Day Weekend.
Thanksgiving Sunday
Thanksgiving is a special holiday in the life of the Congregational church. It hearkens back to original quest of the Pilgrims to live where they could worship God according to their own conscience. We celebrate at 10:30am on the Sunday before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Advent
During the worship service, a family, couple, or individual is invited to come up onto the chancel to participate with the reading and lighting of the Advent candle.
Christmas Sunday
Unless Christmas falls on a Sunday, the Christmas Sunday service is held on the Sunday before Christmas at 10:30am. Join us in song and scripture, celebrating Christ’s birth and enjoying a festive sanctuary decorated with poinsettias, wreaths, and Christmas trees.
Christmas Eve
This is one of the most beautiful and meaningful services of the church. We often have a string quartet to enhance the evening’s music.
The service starts at 10:00pm with procession of the choir, Diaconate, and other readers into the sanctuary.
