Guest Speakers

Frequently, we bring outstanding and timely speakers to our church to address topics of particular relevance.  The Reverend Dr. Stephen Blackburn, a recognized authority on Muslim/Christian relations, has been at Pilgrim Church on numerous occasions as a lecturer and preacher.  His presentation on Christianity and Islam is one that will long be remembered by our members and the surrounding communities.

Rummage Sale

Our annual Rummage Sale is a much anticipated favorite with the community.  It is held annually, alternating between Spring and Fall.  Every member of the church searches their attics, garages and closets for “treasures” that are donated to the sale.  These items include: Household items such as glassware, small appliances; books, cd’s, videos; linens; children’s clothing, books, toys, baby items; adult clothing; sports equipment; electronic items; some furniture; garden items; holiday decorations; boutique items of special worth including jewelry, dishes, and treasures still to be named.

Christmas Band

Each year, Paul Gomperz, a founding member of the church gathers a group of musicians from the community, people who enjoy coming and playing  joyful secular and religious Christmas music in our sanctuary.  They are joined by an exceptional group of jazz musicians who are students at Watchung Hills Regional High School, called Brass in Black, and their extremely talented conductor, Bonnie Burgdorf.  Prior to our musical evening we enjoy a scrumptious pot luck supper in Fellowship Hall.  The community is cordially invited to join us for supper and the music.

Christmas Caroling

Members participate in Christmas caroling, under the direction of our choir master, Tom Paster.   We visit church members who are homebound or who are experiencing special circumstances in their lives.  It’s a great night, both for the church members who hear the carols and for the carolers who participate, bringing back the memories and joy of best-loved carols.  After our caroling, we meet back at the parsonage for delicious refreshments around a roaring fire.
