Benevolences

Slider6-PilgrimChurchVABingoIn an attempt to help those who have encountered special circumstances of need in the surrounding communities we have pledged ourselves to holding an annual Rummage Sale.  Items are sold at reasonable prices in an attempt to help.  Doors open at 9 AM and the line to get into the sale always snakes around the church.

Locally, we serve the Somerset Food Bank with cooked meals for the homebound and a donation of canned goods during the holiday season.  We have also donated children’s clothing and adult clothing to their programs to help prepare children going back to school and to help women prepare for job interviews.

At the request of our church’s denomination we support The Morgan Scott Project, a program in Morgan and Scott Counties in the Appalachian region of Tennessee.  Morgan Scott helps under-served residents to prepare for employment and/or school in an effort to help themselves.  To this end we have donated personal care and household cleaning products not covered by food stamps, as well as hand-made sweaters and seeds for gardening in order to raise their own food.  Our pastor has developed a personal relationship with this organization, visiting and delivering some of our donations in person.  Through the contacts with the chairman of our Outreach Committee, Church and Dwight division of household products delivers annually much needed pallets of supplies for Morgan Scott that fills their storage room to overflowing.

Twice a year we visit the VA Hospital in Lyons, NJ, and spend an evening with our veterans doing something they love best, playing bingo.  At Christmas we support Socks for Soldiers to ensure that our service men and women overseas have the proper footwear they need.  Anything we can do to help those who have faithfully served in our military is something we should religiously do for others.
